Version 2.8 and beyond
Starting from version 2.8 there is a plugin named "AntiSpam", that offers additional functionality for all plugins. This protection automatically applies to all existing plugins. An update or change of their source code is not necessary.
As of version 2.8 this plugin is activated by default. However - it may be deactived on the administrator's panel on demand.
Starting with version 2.9.3 this plugin can also be configured via the administrator's panel.
Version 2.7 and beyond
To avoid unrequested ads in your guestbook, starting from version 2.7 the application offers functionality to protect your application against bots.
This displays an image with some text, which the guest needs to read and enter into a text-field in order to be able to post an entry.
To activate this function, click "guestbook setup" in the administrator's panel and choose from the menu spam-protection the entry "security check: yes".
Version 2.6 and older
All previous versions and the Light-Edition do not feature this option. However if you permanently recieve ads you still can do something about it.
1. Copy the file "config/gbuch.dat" to "config/mygbuch.dat".
2. Set access restriction of file "config/gbuch.dat" to write-protected
3. Set access restriction for "config/mygbuch.dat" via CHMOD to "666" (Read and write access for all users)
4. Change the URL, you use to call the guestbook to "index.php?id=mygbuch" or "gaestebuch.php?id=mygbuch"
The attacker will possibly need several months until he notices that the message send are going nowhere. If after some time the problem appears again, repeat the procedure.
If all of this does not work, consider updating to version 2.7 or beyond. |
